The editors at Hearth & Coffin have been kind enough to include my poem, “Upon the Burning of Notre-Dame,” in their latest issue.
All of the pieces included orbit around the theme “Burn.”
When I saw the call, I thought “Hey! I’ve got one of those!” This piece is a few years old, as you might expect, written while the cathedral was still burning. It’s been revised and worked on since, but its basic form was there from the beginning.
I’m not usually an ampersand guy (and I realized too late I needed to swap one into the second stanza), and I find myself second-guessing their use here. I like them better, though, on the published screen than they appear in my word processor. Which just goes to show, fonts matter.
Thank you to the editors and readers.
